Marantz & Denon To Merge Operations <>
Marantz Japan, Inc., its largest shareholder (49%), Royal Philips Electronics, and Denon, Ltd., its largest shareholder (98%), Ripplewood Holdings LLC, announced yesterday (March 7/02) the establishment of D&M Holdings Inc., a joint holding company to merge the operations of premium brands Marantz and Denon. The transaction is expected to close by May of this year, and will maintain the established names. D&M Holdings will be "well positioned to benefit from this organic growth through the advanced development of cutting-edge digital products matching Denon and Marantz's expertise in digital AV and visual products as well as wireless technology", according to a joint press release. <> The press release also stated, "Moreover, Marantz and Denon expect to achieve a significant improvement in margins and cash flow by maximizing the synergies of the integrated operations". The new company will be headquartered in Japan, and will not in the short term change Canadian and US distribution channels, though some consolidation has to be ultimately expected. Currently Denon America distributes Mission loudspeakers, while Denon Canada also distributes Mission, as well as Kimber Kable products. Denon Canada has just opened a new headquarters building in Markham, Ontario, while Marantz is distributed by Lenbrook Industries of Pickering, Ontario, one of Canada's largest audio/video manufacturers and distributors, owning NAD Electronics and PSB Loudspeakers, while distributing numerous brands, including KEF, Seleco, and AudioQuest. <>Andrew Marshall <> |
