AKG K240DFs sound bright to my ears...I'm puzzled AKG K240DFs <>AKG K240DFs sound bright to my ears...I'm puzzled (modified 0 times) Damon <>I recently got a pair of AKG K240DFs and noticed right from the start all of my mixes sound much brighter then my old AKG K240s.
My friend told me that the AKG K240DFs are so flat that your mixes will actually sound really crappy on them, which is a good thing. Its what I wanted. To be able to hear the true sound.
Well in my friends studio, his room is completely covered in Sonix foam and is dead as a door nail. My demos sounded fine on his speakers but why is everything so bright on the K240DFs? Do I have to break them in or something?
Any info would be VERY much appreciated. According to my new headphones, it sounds like I'll need to cut away some high end where as before when I was mixing on the old AKG K240s and my Mackie HR824 monitors, everything sounded mudier.
Very perplexed
Thanks

We did not change the design and sound characteristics of our K 240 DF over the years.
However one effect happens over a longer time period of using the headphones, the earpads are changing their shape a little bit, they are adapting to the shape of ears and head. this can alter the sound and therefore it is a good idea to change them from time to time.
Please let us know, whether changing the pads did help with your problem. If not, we can offer you to make a measurement of your headphones, to find out the reason for the different sound.<>kind regards
Horst
