I'm sorry that my analysis doesn't meet your standards. I'd suggest you invest in the Praga and the DG recordings and find out for yourself. By the way, the Schubert Eighth is also a fake; it's actually a performance from 1978 that can be obtained on a Melodiya CD, coupled with the Sibelius Seventh. (Search Amazon for "Mravinsky Schubert Sibelius" and you will find it.) Once again, as with the Tchaikovsky, one can determine that they are the same recordings by the existence of exactly the same extraneous noises and exactly the same relative difference in the durations of the movements. The Praga transfers are sharp for both the Tchaikovsky and the Schubert. Go for the DG and Melodiya instead to get correctly pitched versions of these performances. |
