为了照顾对声音有高要求的电脑用家，Altec Lansing在近日更推出旗下首部采用Class D数码扩音器技术的新喇叭组合621，音色就自然更加出色！621为一套2.1声道喇叭组合；高频喇叭的绝缘膜用上聚脂膜Mylar制造。

Altec Lansing 621 Speaker System
Today we review another set of Altec Lansing speakers, the 621s. Our last review of speakers were the Altec Lansing 5100s. The 5100s are pushed towards gamers, while the 621s are designed more for audio listening. Let&#39s take a look at the 621s and see how they perform both for music listening and game playing.

First Impressions  
When first looking at the speakers you notice they are fairly small, and while they may not leave as small a footprint as the 5100s, they are still rather small considering other packages out there. After connecting the speakers up and listening to the audio you notice that they seem to be focused for bass. Because the two speakers in the 621 package aren&#39t as small as other tweeters in other Altec Lansing speaker offerings, they still manage to provide a decent treble. We&#39ll talk more on how I overcame this slight problem later on in the review.
The other main aspect of the 621s that I noticed was that the controller that comes with the audio package is only for adjusting the overall volume of the two speakers and not the subwoofer. The subwoofer is controlled by an independent dial on the back of the subwoofer.

To assemble the 621&#39s is very simple. Altec Lansing is known for their color coordination of plugs and the 621 is no different. Assembling the 621&#39s is so simple, experienced users could easily set the speaker system up without reading one word of the directions simply by connecting the coordinating colored plugs together and then setting up the speakers where you want them. If you intend on using more of the 621&#39s more advanced setups, it may require taking a peek at the instructions. Don&#39t worry, we won&#39t consider you any less of a man.


Volume Control
Let&#39s talk about this audio control. The regular volume controller controls the two speakers and is a simple up and down and power options. I was a little disappointed to not have more options with the 621&#39s, but figured if Altec Lansing had added them, the package would have a higher price as well. As long as you are attaching the speakers to a device that has its own set of treble and bass controls you won&#39t have that much trouble setting them up how you like, as far as just enough bass and just enough treble.
Tested on a PC with Winamp, I had no problem setting the equalizer the way I wanted and getting my music sounding clear and as loud as I wanted.




One problem is though when you have a variety of songs, that some seem to be in-between the bass and treble threshold and they aren&#39t really treble intensive and not really for thumping away either, along with more treble focused songs and bass focused songs. The larger variety of songs you have, the more annoying it can be if you are picky about the right speaker settings for each song. You will find yourself constantly turning up and down the volume on the controller and--the more painful, bass volume on the back of the subwoofer. If the nob was on the front of the subwoofer, it wouldn&#39t be so bad, but because it&#39s on the back and most subwoofers end up going under desks to make the desk act as another box for the subwoofer and make the thumping that much more intense, it made it extra painstaking everytime I wanted to adjust the bass volume.

For this reason, the Winamp equalizer was a decent fall back option, but it&#39s more of a workaround and not as exact as the actual bass dial.

Another difference between the 621&#39s and the previously reviewed 5100&#39s is that while the 5100&#39s had a headphone jack on the volume controller, the 621&#39s lack this feature. I was a little disappointed to not see this feature, but for most situations you will be able to come up with a work around, which, because of price, that work around will save you money, so Altec Lansing didn&#39t have to include it into the 621s.


Style
The style of the 621&#39s is a little boxy, at first glance. But after careful inspection at the set of speakers and subwoofer they have a less noticeable style. They don&#39t look like something so futuristic as other speakers, and even Altec Lansing&#39s 5100 looks more stylish over the 621&#39s.
What it all comes down to is, are you buying your speakers to look nice, or sound nice? If you want them to look really pretty, you may want to go with another set that looks more futuristic and aerodynamic like it&#39s about to fly away.

If you&#39re looking for something that may not look extremely cool, but sounds excellent all around and that doesn&#39t put to tight of a pinch on the green, the 621&#39s come in at a great bargain.



Gaming
The 621&#39s can easily connect to all next-generation consoles. However, because the 621&#39s are only 2.1, you will deprive yourself of the 4.1 quality that the 5100s may provide. One thing I noticed from running the 621s for quite awhile, with all sorts of games, is that they really grab the bass of a game and shove it down your ears.
While I mostly play first person shooters with guns blazing in your face with fast action happening around every corner, the 621&#39s really shined.

I can see that in other games, that have more characters talking in them, it could possibly be hard to hear them if you set your settings a little too rough


on bass. But because of the nature of first person shooters and the intense weapon action with very little talking, the 621&#39s really made weapons sound better. This seems to be fairly logicial, since most weapons don&#39t make a high pitch noise that the two speakers can&#39t handle. Instead, they produce a ear pleasing, thumping sound as your shotgun blasts through the heads of your enemies.

Even using the speaker setup during Counter-Strike and hearing people converse over Counter-Strike using their microphones wasn&#39t bad at all. Because of the compression technology used to keep the audio compressed, the voices are generally low in the audio spectrum.


If you tend to play more RPGs than other games, or other games that have more regular talking in their single player department, you may want to consider Altec Lansing&#39s 5100, since they provide the treble your games would need to produce clear sound for your ears.

Summary
Altec Lansing&#39s 621 speaker system is an excellent purchase for the person looking for that bass for desktop performance. Whether you are into listening to music or playing games, the 621&#39s will accommodate you and your listening style. The budget price means some of the extras that Altec Lansings 5100 series had, don&#39t appear in the 621 speaker set.

Conclusion
It all comes down, to what type of system you are looking for. The 621&#39s Altec Lancing speaker set is great for the money If you are looking for something that can push a decent amount of bass for the money you spend. However, if you need something that is going to need to be capable of putting out a good bit of treble as well, you may find yourself leaning more toward Altec Lansing&#39s 5100 set or some other system that is more capable of putting out the same amount of treble as it can put out in bass.
The 621&#39s put out good bass, but don&#39t put out enough treble to make them as clear as other sound setups. For any first person shooter gamer looking for a bargain speaker system that will push their boomstick in the game, you would be well decided to give Altec Lansing&#39s 621&#39s a try.
