ABENDROTH CONDUCTS MASTERWORKS OF THE ROMANTIC ERA

编号:CD-1038(2)

"...the depth and intensity of interpretations, notably of core Germanic literature, became legendary, a fact attested to by the performances collected on these disc."

" ...a highly desirable Music & Arts two-CD set devoted to flexibly phrased and often impassioned "Masterworks of the Romantic Era"...The performances are never less than fascinating and the recorded sound is never less than comfortable.

HERMANN ABENDROTH (b. Frankfurt, 19 January, 1883; d. Jena, 29 May, 1956) was one of the outstanding German conductors of his time, especially as an interpreter of symphonic music of the 19th century. His conducting career covered more than a half century. From 1934-1942 he was director of the Leipzig Conservatory and from 1934 to 1945 he lead the Leipzig Gewndhaus Orchestra.

His post World War II career was spent entirely in the German Democratic Republic. He earned acclaim especially for his Schumann performances. In 1956, shortly before his death, he became honorary chairman of the committee formed in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Schumann’s death. The performances on these two discs feature some of his finest interpretations of the romantic repertoire in which he excelled, two of them (the works by Tchaikovsky and Brahms) previously unreleased.

HERMANN ABENDROTH: UNRELEASED BROADCAST PERFORMANCES, 1939-1950

编号:CD-1065(4)

Abendroth (1883-1956) shared with his better known contemporary Wilhelm Furtwängler a highly subjective approach to conducting. Abendroth specialized in the great German classics from Bach to Bruckner, rendering them with flexibility, spontaneity, and temperament. Players praised his technique as clear and straightforward, even where he appeared as a guest. From German Radio Archives, Music and Arts has selected previously unissued recordings that are a fitting memento to this great artist.

     第九交响曲(终乐章)
     第四钢琴协奏曲(Wilhelm Kempff )

HERMANN ABENDROTH CONDUCTS BEETHOVEN, BRAHMS & BRUCKNER: 1939-49 BROADCAST PERFORMANCES.

CD-1099(2)

Once as famous as his colleague Furtwängler, Abendroth, who until the end of the war conducted the Leipzig Gewandhausorchester, nearly faded into obscurity after 1945 when he had to give up the podium of the great historic Leipzig symphony and conducted mainly in the East German provincial city of Weimar. His commercial recording career ended and with a few exceptions he conducted mainly in East Germany, where he chose to remain until his death in 1956. His principal venue between 1949 & 1956 was the Leipzig radio station (MDR) which recorded many of his concerts and became the vehicle for preserving much of his art.

曲目:贝多芬:第八交响曲
   勃拉姆斯:第二交响曲
   布鲁克纳:第八交响曲
